Family Reunion-034

Hi!  My name is Kurt. Ben Rogue is a pseudonym I’ve been using for over 30 years, going back to college. I haven’t used it much lately, but I hope to change that. I want to change a lot of things in my life.

I was born in a small town in central Wisconsin back when Vince Lombardi was transforming the Green Bay Packers from divisional doormats to perennial champions. Those were heady days, but I only caught the wisp of them. I grew up in the 70s. Vince was gone, the Packers went back under the doormat, and then came disco. Fast forward please…

Now it’s the 21st Century (I remember when that was a futuristic TV show) and everything seems to be run by electronic gadgets hooked up to each other all over the world. Pow. Global compression in the palm of your hand. Stare at the lighted screen, as you are now, as am I. See the soothing blue light behind the words and images. Think of a happy place…is it disco?

I’ve been living in Colorado for 30 years, and it’s been a perfect fit. I live in Loveland, where my now grown children were born. The Big Thompson River runs not far away, and the canyon it carved through the mountains is at my grasp in a matter of moments. People are nice here. Kind. Real. We drive a little slower in Loveland than they do in Fort Collins, and I like that. I’m hoping to spend the rest of my life here. I hope that it will be a rich and rewarding rest of my life. I’m looking for that path. I feel driven by something Henry David Thoreau said: “Why work like a dog all your life so you can pant for a moment or two before you die?” Has a rather nice ring to it, doesn’t it? I think I’ll take a moment’s pause and consider living a dog’s life today. Doesn’t seem so hard.

Dare to dream.
